Merthyr Tydfil’s New Indoor Market Launches in Time for Christmas

11 December 2025

Merthyr Tydfil’s new Indoor Market will officially open this Saturday, 13 December — perfectly timed for the Christmas rush.

The market, based inside St Tydfil Shopping Centre, brings together a blend of traditional traders and new food vendors within the refurbished ground floor of the former Wilko building.

The development follows the Merthyr Tydfil Placemaking Plan consultation held in summer 2024, during which residents strongly supported relocating the existing indoor market. The Council’s Regeneration team has worked closely with current stallholders throughout the process to ensure a smooth transition.

Funding has been provided through the Welsh Government’s Transforming Towns Programme and the UKSPF Programme.

Phase one will see existing traders move into the new space, with additional businesses set to join in the New Year. Future phases will introduce Sunday opening, night-time markets and app-based food ordering.

The market is close to full capacity, but businesses interested in trading opportunities can contact sarahbell@sttydfilshoppingcentre.co.uk.

The new Indoor Market will be open Monday to Saturday, 9am–5pm.
