Local Talents Shine at NMTF Young Traders Competition 2024

06 April 2024

St Tydfil Shopping Centre was abuzz with excitement as it played host to the Local Heats of the NMTF Young Traders Competition. The event, which showcased the entrepreneurial spirit of young traders, saw an impressive display of talent and innovation.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Mayor Councillor Malcolm Colbran, Youth Mayor Katy Richards, Deputy Youth Mayor Dylan Morgan Thomas, Steve Morgan of Why Not Shop, and Peter Thomas of PG Crafts for gracing the occasion with their presence and invaluable contributions.

The competition witnessed fierce yet friendly competition, with two standout winners emerging victorious:

  • Malfie & Cro by Leah Kelly: Their unique offerings captivated the judges, earning them well-deserved recognition.
  • Welsh Mallow Co by Emily Roberts: Their delicious creations delighted taste buds and secured a coveted spot among the winners.

Additionally, three talented individuals were highly commended for their exceptional efforts:

  • Cymru Ices by Pepsi Evens
  • Blu Raven Creative by Twyla Grace
  • Amaze Me by Elana Roberts

Their dedication and creativity did not go unnoticed, earning them the admiration of both the judges and the audience.

The journey doesn’t end here for these young entrepreneurs. The Regional Finals, scheduled to take place in Swansea in July, will provide them with another opportunity to showcase their skills and vie for a place in the National Finals, which will be held in Stratford Upon Avon in August.

Special thanks are also due to St John’s Ambulance (Merthyr Tydfil) for their informative CPR/defibrillation demonstrations, ensuring the safety and well-being of all attendees. Additionally, McDermott & North set the perfect tone for the event with their melodious tunes, enhancing the overall experience for everyone present.

The Local Heats of the NMTF Young Traders Competition at St Tydfil Shopping Centre were not just a celebration of entrepreneurship but also a testament to the vibrant spirit of our community. We congratulate all the participants and look forward to witnessing their continued success in the future.
